SCHENECTADY – Former Newburgh Free Academy principal Edgar Glascott has been named Schenectady City School District athletic director.
Glascott resigned from Newburgh in August of last year. His tenure in Newburgh was not without controversy regarding two situations.
Schenectady Schools Superintendent Anival Soler, Jr. said “athletics is an important part of how we continue to uplift our district and community and I am confident that under Edgar’s leadership we will continue to move in the right direction.”
Glascott had also served as the Newburgh district’s athletic director for a period of time.
The announcement of Glascott’s appointment said he has “extensive coaching and athletic program leadership experience” having served at Greenburgh Central School District and Newburgh Enlarged City School District.
“Under his leadership 100 percent of student-athletes graduated at Newburgh School District and 90 percent earned college scholarships,” the Capital District announcement said.
It made no mention of the Newburgh scandal of student-athlete grade-fixing that prompted an investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
The Schenectady announcement said, “Many qualified candidates were interviewed for the athletic director positions. Glascott was selected as the top candidate by a multi-stakeholder interview team.”
