NEWBURGH – Former Newburgh Free Academy Principal Edgar Glascott has resigned.

The district, now under the leadership of new Superintendent Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell, has issued an announcement that it is seeking applicants for an “anticipated vacancy” for a high school co-principal.

Glascott was one of two administrators and four teachers who were suspended following what was perceived as an inappropriate social media post about a hair extension belonging to a female African American student.

The job vacancy post in all school buildings, issued by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Michael McLymore, said it is seeking a candidate with a state school administrator and supervisor certification or school building leader certification or school district administrator certification.

The job also requires a masters’ degree, a minimum of five to seven years of “successful” teaching experience, and a minimum of three to five years of experience as a building level administrator.

The posting is set to close on Wednesday, August 17.
