POUGHKEEPSIE – Bella Luci Salon in Poughkeepsie is dedicating a weekend to raise funds for VetZero, an organization that battles veteran suicides and aids homeless vets.

Owner Rebecca Lee is the mother of a Navy sailor and said veterans hold a special place in her heart. The weekend of February 26-28, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the salon, 10% of every service provided by the salon will be donated to VetZero, a subsidiary of Hudson River Housing.

This is not the first time that Lee and her award-winning staff have helped organizations like VetZero.  The salon, named one of the Top 200 Salons by Salon Today Magazine 7 times, has held a cut-a-thon for VetZero, a fashion show for Miles of Hope, and quietly made donations to other organizations.

Tommy Zurhellen, the Marist Professor that walked across the country to raise awareness of veteran suicide in addition to raising funds for VetZero, applauded Lee’s generosity.  Zurhellen, who is also on the board of directors for Hudson River Housing said “We’re so excited to have Bella Luci Salon join our next VetZero Weekend on February 26-28. Rebecca is the proud mom of a Navy sailor, and we can’t think of a better way to support local business and support our local veterans at the same time. Welcome to Rebecca and the Bellas at Bella Luci Salon in Poughkeepsie!”

Bella Luci Salon is a sustainable beauty salon focusing on services and products good for the guest, technician, and the earth.  Lee noted that the salon operates with a green business philosophy, recycling 95% of the waste.  In an effort to protect the environment, Lee said “We even recycle the hair clippings.  They are repurposed to create booms to minimize damage from oil spills.” The salon has celebrated Earth Month by developing a community garden right outside the doors on Liberty Street. The light source in the salon is through floor to ceiling windows and LED bulbs, the floors are bamboo, the furniture is repurposed, recycled, and sustainable woods and products that are organic and vegan when possible.

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the salon industry, the salon upgraded the HVAC system to provide the highest filtration possible, and have added a medical grade air purification system approved for the removal of dust to virus molecules and everything in between. “Safety is the new luxury and we take it very seriously at Bella Luci Salon,” said Lee.
