Students visiting Career Day at Our Lady of Lourdes.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Our Lady of Lourdes High School hosted its first career day for juniors and seniors, to introduce them to professionals in a variety of careers.  Mid Hudson News had one of dozens of booths at the Wednesday event at the high school.

The Class of 2024, approximately 150 students, visited professionals from various careers including law enforcement agencies, fire departments, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, an award-winning photographer, an interior design firm, and several others.  The seniors were engaging and very thoughtful in their questioning of the various representatives and spent the entire first period of their day visiting the booths.

An FBI exhibit drew several boys who were attracted to the body armor and became excited when they discovered they could wear it for a photograph.

The Class of 2025 switched with the upperclassmen during the second period.  The younger students spent a quick pass through the entire gym full of exhibitors, while scouting out that booths were giving things like candy, frisbees, and notepads, away.  On their second, more deliberate pass through the rows, the small groups of juniors stopped at the booths with giveaways.

In preparing for the event, Christa Maserjian from the school’s Office of Institutional Advancement, called the career day an “exciting journey for our junior and senior classes as they explore their future career options,” and her assessment proved true according to several of the professionals after the gym cleared out and students returned to class.
