NEWBURGH – Torrance Harvey, who has served as Newburgh city mayor since his appointment following the death of Mayor Judy Kennedy last April was elected to a one-year term in the city’s top spot.
Harvey, a Democrat, plans to continue to move the city forward.
“We are still going to continue to attract new businesses so we can bring more jobs, meaningful employment; eradicate the urban blight, get rid of those abandoned buildings, getting them back on the tax rolls, and welcoming new families and also celebrating the families that have been here for decades,” he said.
Harvey beat challenger Gay Lee, a former city councilwoman.
Councilman-at-Large Anthony Grice also won election. He was appointed to fill Harvey’s former seat when he became mayor.
