VIDEO FROM THE SCENE:

POUGHKEEPSIE – A teenager was shot Tuesday afternoon (today) just moments after Poughkeepsie High School was dismissed at 2:40 p.m.  The male victim was located on Church Street just east of South White Street.  A student had returned to the area of the high school to report the incident to the police who were in the school parking lot, monitoring the dismissal.

Police rushed to the scene, located the victim on the sidewalk, and quickly loaded him into an ambulance with the assistance of Poughkeepsie firefighters.  He was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

City cops, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, shut down the immediate area to pedestrian and vehicular traffic as they searched for the assailant.

The clerk at the corner store at South White Street and Fox Terrace said that a young man with a gun had entered his store, located one block away from where the victim was found.  At least one shell casing was located in the parking lot of the store.

One witness told Mid-Hudson News that the armed assailant had fled east on the north side of Church Street, running toward the city.

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone who has information regarding the incident is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie confidential TIP LINE at 845-451-7577.
