WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was convicted by Westchester County Court Judge George Fufidio of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer and other changes. Kim Carl, 52, faces up to 15 years in prison.
On September 24, 2016 at about 10:20 p.m., Carl was recklessly driving at a high rate of speed in a car registered to his mother near Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers when a city patrol car activated its lights and siren in attempt to pull him over. Carl sped up and crossed the Bronx line. Yonkers Police did not pursue him outside that city.
About 10 minutes later, Carl re-entered Yonkers with police flowing him into a parking lot on Water Grant Street where Carl turned his vehicle facing the two police cars. The officers ordered him to stop, but he stepped on the gas in their direction. The cops jumped out of the way narrowly escaping being run over.
Carl’s vehicle struck the police cars, damaging both, but he sped away. He then led police on a high-speed chase into the Bronx where he crashed and flipped his car over.
He was arrested, taken to the hospital, and placed into custody. Police found drugs inside his car.
Carl was also convicted, on June 28, of two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal mischief and one count of misdemeanor drug possession. He will be sentenced later this month.
