The American Cancer Society (ACS) is seeking volunteers for its Road to Recovery program.

Kristi Greco, a Senior Development Manager with the American Cancer Society (ACS), has worked with cancer patients who have fallen behind on their bills or mortgage due to expenses incurred on trips from the Hudson Valley to New York City for weekly treatments.

Some others do not have a vehicle or a ride to get to appointments, but thanks to the ACS’s Road to Recovery Program and good people such as Lainey Geniti two Orange County children, ages five and 16, will have transportation to Westchester Medical Center (WMC) for treatments this month.

Road to Recovery is a free service for cancer survivors and a caregiver to get them to their lifesaving treatments. Geniti, owner of Armani’s Limo, Car Service and Mobile Detailing in Montgomery stepped up to provide some of the free rides this week after learning about the program from Greco on Facebook.

“I have the means to help these people and if they can’t get to the hospital, I’m going to make sure that they get there,” Geniti said. “I want them to get better. Their families have enough to worry about, they do not need to worry about getting to the hospital.”

Greco said that rides are needed for the children receiving treatments from WMC to Orange County at about 3 p.m. on May 15th, May 20th and May 22nd. To sign up to be a volunteer driver, call 1-800-227-2345 or go to www.cancer.org/drive.

The volunteer is responsible for the gas and their time. Volunteer drivers must be between the ages of 18 and 84, have a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, and have access to a safe, reliable car.

“Some people have treatments every day and don’t have big families, and they don’t have a ride,” Greco said. “To be able to have someone help them, is huge. This initiative is important to me and we are thankful to Lainey Geniti and our other volunteers.”
