WASHINGTON – A bill to rename the Saugerties Post Office in honor of the late Maurice Hinchey has passed in the House of Representatives.
Congressman John Faso (R, Kinderhook) sponsored the resolution in memory of man who was in public service for 38 years.
“He is fondly remembered as an advocate, a staunch advocate, for what he believed, including care for US military veterans and the environment through his support of the Clean Air Act and the Hudson River Heritage Area, among his other accomplishments,” Faso said.
Hinchey died at age 79 on November 22, 2017.
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, Cold Spring) said Hinchey was “a legend in the Hudson Valley and beyond.”
The Senate must now approve the measure before it would go to the President’s desk for his signature.
