The Family Fishing Day in LaGrange.

LAGRANGE – The Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs hosted their annual Family Fishing Day on Sunday and the turnout was one of the largest ever, according to Bill “Mr. Outdoors” Conners.  Dozens of families spent the morning trying to catch some of the more than 300 trout that were stocked in the lake at Overlook Park in LaGrange.

Attendees who needed fishing gear were able to borrow a rod and reel from the New York State DEC officer, who was there to answer questions and help both new and seasoned anglers.  Food and beverages were provided by the federation and, according to Conners, “Everyone had a smile on their face,” despite not having a fish on the hook.

The Family Fishing Day was dedicated to Cheryl Rose and her late husband, Ken.  The husband and wife were a part of fishing derbies for kids and family fishing days for decades until Ken passed away.  Cheryl was at Sunday’s event and was surprised by the federation when they unveiled the banner in honor of the Rose duo.
