POUGHKEEPSIE – State Senator Rob Rolison (R, Poughkeepsie) spent time picking up trash along Maple Street (westbound arterial) in Poughkeepsie for this year’s Earth Day.  Cleaning up trash is not a new initiative for Rolison – he has been doing it for his entire political career.

During his tenure as a Dutchess County legislator, including serving as the body’s chairman, Rolison could frequently be seen in and around the City of Poughkeepsie, picking up and bagging trash to be hauled away.  During his seven years as mayor of Poughkeepsie, it was not uncommon to see Rolison and city DPW workers hauling mattresses and other debris out of the Fallkill Creek or picking up random roadside garbage.

On Earth Day this year, Rolison and two of his staffers joined with Lance MacMillan, regional director of the state DOT, and some DOT workers, to pick up a substantial amount of trash along the sides of Maple Street (westbound arterial) between Pershing Avenue and North Cherry Street.

“Trash is a quality of life issue,” Rolison said.  “Getting rid of the garbage makes the city a little more inviting to people driving into Poughkeepsie.  It doesn’t take much to make the area look nice – I just wish more people would join in cleaning things up.”
