TOWN OF CORTLANDT – When the Indian Point nuclear power plants shut down on 2020 and 2021, it will mean a loss of $900,000 a year to the Town of Cortlandt so local officials are planning for the future.
The town will set aside at least $100,000 a year as a rainy day fund to apply to that loss.
Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi also has a task force in motion already exploring what to do with the property.
“The re-use of the 240 acres is something that we are very interested in, so hopefully in the future we will be able to have other industries come in,” Puglisi said. “We will never make up the loss of this revenue, but we need to find some other industry to come in there in the future.”
Early this year, Indian Point owner Entergy reached an agreement with
the state and Riverkeeper to shut down the power plant and drop their
applications for 20-year license extensions.
