Tyner: “I am thrilled … excited”

ALBANY – A proposal to require the testing of private wells when a home is being sold or when a new well is being drilled was advanced Wednesday by Governor Cuomo.
Dutchess County Legislator Joel Tyner has been pushing for the same legislation on the county level, but it never gained traction among his colleagues. And he is not so sure it would make it on the state level either.
“I am afraid, frankly, that the conservative reactionaries that control the state Senate right now are not going to let that thing be passed, which is one more reason why we have to flip the Senate to Democratic control,” Tyner said. “But, I am thrilled, I’m excited and I am hopeful that every county, city, town and village can pass memorializing resolutions in support of that resolution.”
Tyner said similar laws are on the books in Rockland and Westchester counties and in the towns of Wappinger, Fishkill and East Fishkill in Dutchess County.
