RHINEBECK – In memory of the six million European Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II, Holocaust Remembrance Day was held on Sunday.

In Rhinebeck, the Jewish Federation of Dutchess County held a peaceful demonstration against anti-Semitism and hate.

The group was joined by Assemblyman A.J. Beephan (R, East Fishkill) who reaffirmed his “unwavering support for Israel and the vibrant Jewish community in New York.”

Beephan expressed his “profound concern over the alarming surge in antisemitic incidents and the proliferation of hateful rhetoric.”

“This solemn day is not only about the past – it’s about the present,” said Governor Kathy Hochul in a statement from Albany. “The specter of anti-Semitism continues to haunt us and has grown more potent in the wake of Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel.”

The governor said New York “will never tolerate these vile acts toward our Jewish community. I will always stand to protect New Yorkers and vow to never forget the atrocities of the Holocaust.”
