For Sale: $4.51 million

NEW CITY – Following weeks of political bickering between Republican
Rockland County Executive Edwin Day and the Democratic-controlled county
legislature, lawmakers voted unanimously to solicit bids to sell the county-owned
Sain property in New City.
It was up for sale before in hopes of closing a potential $4 million budget gap, but Day said the legislature reneged on the plan and lawmakers accused Day of causing a breakdown.
Now, all 16 legislators voted on Tuesday to seek bids on the property with a minimum price tag of $4.51 million.
“This is a bipartisan effort to move the process forward in a way that protects Rockland County taxpayers and is in full compliance with the requirements of the law,” said legislature Chairman Alden Wolfe.
He said if a bid is awarded by September 23, the closing could happen before the end of the year and save the county from a potential $1.5 million deficit going into 2017.
