GOSHEN – Orange County Foreign Trade Zone #37, which has jurisdiction statewide, may land a new tenant in the future.
County Economic Development Director Steven Gross said Highland Continental is exploring the opportunity.
“They are taking over a building in the City of Newburgh looking to make that a foreign trade zone option for their importing. They do electronics coming from Asia, they do all sorts of imports and assembly,” he said. “It might be another good opportunity for the foreign trade zone.”
Another company, Findlay’s Tall Timbers, located in Chemung County, was accepted into the FTZ last year.
Foreign trade zones are designed for companies to import product components, assemble them within the zone and not pay import taxes on them until they are shipped out.
