MIDDLETOWN – Residents in certain neighborhoods in Middletown are frustrated by the length of time it is taking to repair flooding issues caused by the severe storms of recent years.
The city council was briefed Tuesday night on the plans to remediate the problems. A Housing and Urban Development grant of $2.7 million to fix much of the damage awaits final approval in Washington and Mayor Joseph DeStefano said city officials have been on top of the situation.
“We are doing what we need to do to make this city a better place to live and I thank the people for their patience. I understand it, but they have been living with it for a long time. We are at a point now where help is on the way,” the mayor said.
DeStefano said when the anticipated funding is secured and those conditions are corrected, it will not end Middletown’s efforts to prevent future flooding.
