NEWBURGH – Those small satellite dishes that are most visible in city
settings, lining the facades and roof lines of houses that have been converted
to apartments, should be banned from highly visible areas. At least that
is the opinion of Newburgh Councilwoman Genie Abrams, who would like the
city to require those devices to be place out-of-sight.
Abrams lives in an historic district of Newburgh and she said they are eyesores.
“They are just pustules on our civic face,” she said. “There
are these gorgeous buildings, they are just, clap, clap, clap, right on
the front. Anybody driving by, walking by, trying to enjoy themselves, there
are these ugly, inappropriate, metal things, these modern devices on the
front of the building.”
City Corporation Counsel Michelle Kelson noted they are not state regulated
utilities and are placed for the best TV reception. Having said that, Kelson
said she would research the issue when time permits due to her workload,
to determine if the city could regulate their placement in less obvious
locations on buildings.
