SUNY New Paltz student arrested for gashing trooper’s head with metal bottle during protest

NEW PALTZ – State Police have arrested a 20-year-old New City student in connection with gashing a state trooper’s head with a metal water bottle during last weekend’s pro-Palestine protest and encampment at SUNY New Paltz.

Following investigation, police arrested Aiden O’Brien of Rockland County and charged him with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, disorderly conduct and trespass.

O’Brien was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail with cash bail set at 5,000.

The State Police Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation is requesting that anyone who may have observed that crime, or has any other information related to it, to call them at 845-344-5300.

The injured trooper received several stitches to close the wound over his left eye.
