PURCHASE – Manhattanville College in Purchase has received university status, “a significant inflection point” in its nearly 200-year history, said Dr. Frank Sanchez, its first Latino president.

“This is a new era of inclusivity and excellence that I know will have long-standing positive repercussions for the future of Westchester and our students,” said Westchester County Executive George Latimer.  “Earning this distinction as a university is a clear indication of Manhattanville’s continued growth, leadership and forward-thinking momentum.”

Dr. Sanchez says the school becomes a university, “we are ushering the next phase of forward-thinking program development and transformative educational experiences.”

Sanchez became the school’s 15th president in July 2023.

Prior to joining Manhattanville, he was president of Rhode Island College, where he served from 2016 through 2022.
