Troopers place a wreathe at the fallen trooper monument in Wallkill
TOWN OF WALLKILL – State Police marked Memorial Day with their annual ceremonies to remember their fallen brothers and sisters in the line of duty.
At Troop F Headquarters in the Town of Wallkill, the 12 troopers who died and the families they left behind were remembered by Troop Commander Major Joseph Tripodo at the observance held Friday.
“The world is a dangerous and unsafe place. Ceremonies such as this one are a grim reminder of the all too real dangers that our troopers, deputies and police officers face every day as they carry out the mission of public safety,” Tripodo said. “As we honor those who have gone before us, let us also honor those who are presently out there in harm’s way bravely risking their lives in the struggle to protect us.”
Twelve State Troopers assigned to Troop F, which serves Mid-Hudson counties on the west side of the Hudson River, have died in the line of duty.
A similar service was held at Troop K headquarters in Salt Point for the troop that covers the counties to the east of the Hudson.
