TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, just days after receiving a distinguished arboretum certification, planted 23 new trees in various locations of the 165-acre cemetery that sits between Route 9 and the Hudson River on the line between the City and Town of Poughkeepsie.

Superintendent Brian Berryann said the new plantings represent a variety of tree species that are expected to join the existing trees in providing shade, improving air quality, and fortifying the soil to prevent runoff and erosion.

The new trees can also be found on the cemetery’s interactive website, found here.

The new trees include Sugar Maple, Ohio Buckeye, Yellow Birch, American Smoke Tree, Carolina Silverbell and several others.  For a full list, stop at the cemetery’s main office.
