CRAGSMOOR – Firefighters were getting the Sam’s Point Preserve mountain fire under control on Wednesday five days after it erupted.
State officials said the fire is still active, but now is 60 percent contained. Both local and state emergency personnel continue to secure the remaining fire, which consumed 1,900 acres.
The blaze brought out two dozen fire departments from both sides of the Hudson River.
Minnewaska State Park and Sam’s Point Preserve remain closed until further notice.
