MIDDLETOWN – Five years after Hurricane Irene, the City of Middletown was successful in locking up $107,000 in FEMA money.
City Public Works Commissioner Jacob Tawil told the common council Tuesday night that Middletown was successful in convincing FEMA to release the funds.
“That is for damage that our water department suffered during Irene, which happened in 2011,” Tawil said. “Our initial application was rejected and we kept going back and forth with FEMA until we got it approved.”
The money will reimburse the city for repairs it paid for itself.
