KINGSTON – Campus officials met with New York Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul Friday morning, as she toured college campuses in Ulster County, accompanied by County Executive Michael Hein.
The first stop was the new SUNY Ulster satellite school in Midtown Kingston, recently refurbished under Hein’s STRIVE initiative. The building formerly served as the Sofie Finn Elementary School before being decommissioned by the district to cut costs.
SUNY Ulster President Alan Roberts was also on hand to show Hochul around the facility.

“I wanted to take time to meet with Mike Hein, and see some of the profound changes that have occurred under his leadership,” Hochul said. “It’s really amazing how you can take an abandoned facility, breathe new life into it, and give an opportunity for young people to come and further their education without any hassle. They can walk to their future.”
They also briefly visited the Patriot Project group home for veterans, also located in Kingston.
Hochul then went on to visit SUNY New Paltz, where she toured the Benjamin Center, and the Advanced Manufacturing Center, accompanied by President Donald Christian, before making an announcement about the proposed funding of the high-speech Internet project.
