$1.2 billion private investment to create bioscience and technology center in Westchester

WHITE PLAINS – Fareri
Associates wants to develop a $1.2 billion biotechnology research facility
on Westchester County-owned land on the Grasslands Reservation adjacent
to Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College.

County Executive Robert Astorino made the announcement on Thursday that
the proposed Westchester BioScience and Technology Center, an almost three
million square foot, mixed-use complex on 80 acres.

Fareri Associates owns 20 acres next to the 60 acres of county land, which
it would rent from the county under a long-term lease.

The county board of legislators and Town of Mount Pleasant must approve
the plan.

Astorino said the project would mean $9 million in estimated new real
estate taxes annually to the county, town and local school district; $7
million in estimated new annual rent to the county; some 4,000 construction
jobs; more than 8,000 new permanent jobs; relationships between Westchester
Med and providers and inventors of cutting-edge medical technologies and
innovations; creating job opportunities for students in the emerging bioscience
field; an creating a new Children’s Living Science Center.
