COLD SPRING – Following a seven-year stint as officer-in-charge of the Cold Spring Police Department, Larry Burke has turned his gold badge over to Matt Jackson who joined the force three years ago.

Jackson was recently named Officer of the Year by the Cold Spring Village Board.

Mayor Kathleen Foley described the new leader as a man who had “consistently demonstrated strong character, a positive work ethic, in addition to providing confidence and excellence in discharging his duties in a calm and steady demeanor.”

During his tenure on the force, Jackson aided a woman giving birth, located an adult suffering from dementia who became lost, administered Narcan in two overdose incidents; restored the heartbeat of a cardiac arrest victim; and de-escalated a confrontation after a traffic incident, including securing a weapon drawn by one of the motorists.

Burke who joined the force in 2013 was also lauded by Mayor Foley describing him as a public servant who had “served the village beyond all expectations.”

Burke will remain on the force as a patrolman.
