TOWN OF WALLKILL – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler has received the Barbara Alvarez Humanitarian Award from the Wallkill Police Community Council.

The award is given annually to an individual who makes significant contributions to improve the quality of life of Wallkill residents and fosters partnerships between law enforcement in the community.

Barbara Alvarez was a founding member of the Wallkill Police Community Council.

The award was presented by Police Community Council President Brian Davis and Police Chief Robert Hertman for District Attorney Hoovler’s contributions to the town, especially in the area of mental health awareness and issues in policing and the criminal justice system.

“I am very thankful for the recognition by the Wallkill Community Police Council and look forward to working on the mental health crisis across Orange County,” said Hoovler. “We must find a way to deal with individuals who are in mental health distress without arresting them unless absolutely necessary. Solving this issue remains a significant goal and I will continue to partner with law enforcement to solve this issue throughout our county.”
