State provides funding for local bomb squads and explosive training for K-9s

ALBANY – Federal Homeland Security grants have been awarded for jurisdictions in the region.
Bomb squad funding will go to Rockland County at $109,000 and Westchester County for $290,284.
Explosive detection canine team funding will go to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. A total of $60,000 will assist it in setting up a new team, said Sheriff Carl DuBois.  The office already has two bomb detection K-9s and this funding will be start-up money the agency applied for. It will cover the cost of a dog, training and a special transport vehicle.  The sheriff’s office also has three narcotics detection K-9s.
Funding in the amount of $5,039 to sustain and enhance explosive detection canine teams with funding going to the Saugerties Police Department for training for Ulster and Greene counties and the City of Kingston.
