MAHOPAC – Quick action by firefighters from Putnam and Northern Westchester averted a calamity for dozens of families residing in the Water Club condominium complex on East Lake Boulevard in Mahopac Saturday evening when a blaze broke out in a first-floor unit.

Calls to 911 sent Mahopac firefighters to the scene overlooking Lake Mahopac and when smoke and flames were observed, calls went out for mutual aid.

Members of several area fire departments responded, including Carmel, Mahopac Falls, Croton Falls, Yorktown, Somers, Kent and Goldens Bridge.

Fire crews managed to contain the damage to the one unit; however, the family was displaced.

Also assisting were members of the Carmel Police, Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services and the Putnam Fire Investigation Team.

The cause of the blaze was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
