Two killed, two injured in four-vehicle Thruway crash

AIRMONT – Two New York City man were killed when the mattress box truck in which they were traveling on the Thruway in the Town of Ramapo just before 10 a.m. Friday was involved in a crash with three other vehicles.
State Police identified the dead as Rambaran Hemankumar, 33, of Jamaica, NY and his passenger, Juan Soto, 20, of Woodhaven, NY.
Troopers said the investigation revealed the mattress truck was northbound in the right lane when it cut across two lanes, striking a box truck and passenger vehicle, before striking a guiderail and crossing into southbound traffic where it was struck by a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the second box truck, Peter Lebron, 24, of Newburgh, was not injured.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, Lois Riconda, 51, of Corona, NY,
was uninjured. He was traveling with three passengers, one of whom sustained
a minor injury.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Tyrone Poole, 43, of New Haven, CT, sustained serious injuries and was reported in stable condition.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
