POUGHKEEPSIE – The aesthetics of the City of Poughkeepsie will be taken into consideration as Dutchess County plans to expand the county jail.
Temporarily, the state has allowed the county to install mobile housing units, or pods, on the jail property, but in the long run, a permanent addition will have to be constructed.
Local architectural concerns are being reviewed, said County Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison.
“They actually have an urban design team as part of this conversation to have what is constructed blending into the surrounding area,” Rolison said.  “The county is doing a very good job with so many factors in consideration.”
Some city residents have complained that the city needs other services instead of a jail expansion, but for over a decade, the state has been mandating the addition to be paid for at county expense.
