NEWBURGH – The Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Newburgh a Tree City USA for the 19th straight year for the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

Newburgh achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements:  forming a tree board, creating a tree-care ordinance; an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and celebrating with an Arbor Day.

“Trees moderate our local climate, clean our air, improve mental health, and help conserve energy,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey.  He said the city is committed to making Newburgh a Tree City in 2025.

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation and education organization dedicated to inspiring people to plant, celebrate, and nurture trees.
