Newhaus chats with soon-to-be centenarian Schmick

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and several other top county officials spent part of Friday bringing meals to homebound seniors in Middletown.  It was part of the county Office for the Aging’s Big Wheels Deliver Meals Program.
Office for the Aging Director AnnMarie Maglione and District Attorney David Hoovler were among the other officials who took part in the event.
“To get out there and meet some of these men and women our county serves was very special,” Neuhaus said. “It was obvious to me that they really appreciated the time and effort people gave to make this a special event. We owe a lot to our senior citizens and this was a rewarding way to show our appreciation.”
The county executive said he was particularly moved when he met Reta Schmick of Middletown, who turns 100 on May 31. He brought her a meal and a bouquet of flowers.
“Reta was very interesting and fun to talk to,” Neuhaus said. “It was inspirational to meet her and learn about her life. Meeting Reta was one of the many highlights of the day.”
