WEST NYACK – A Haverstraw man is under arrest after he allegedly tried to assault a Clarkstown Police officer and did hurt an emergency medical technician.
Police were called to the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack at 6 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a disorderly intoxicated man. As officers tried to subdue Daniel McCormack, 31, he head butted one of the officers and attempted to flee. The officer was not injured.
McCormack remained aggressive as he was being transported to police headquarters and while being placed in a jail cell, officers used pepper spray to prevent him from injuring himself.
It was determined he needed to be transported to Nyack Hospital to be subdued and when placed in a New City Volunteer Ambulance Corp vehicle, he grabbed an EMT’s hand and fingers, trying to bend them back, injuring the worker. The 35-year-old female EMT was treated at Nyack Hospital for a minor hand injury.
McCormack was charged with felony and misdemeanor assault, obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and harassment.
