POUGHKEEPSIE – A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Innis Avenue and Maple Street (westbound arterial) in Poughkeepsie caused significant traffic delays on Thursday morning.  The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m.

A minivan traveling south on Innis Avenue, according to one witness, attempted to make a right on red and was broadsided by a tri-axle dump truck owned by BTM, that was traveling west on the arterial.  The witness stressed that the dump truck had the green light when the van pulled into its path.

The female driver of the minivan was reported to be unconscious immediately after the impact.  Poughkeepsie firefighters responded to extricate the operator who was then transferred to a local hospital for further treatment.

The dump truck driver was uninjured and declined medical attention.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police traffic unit sergeant was at the scene to perform a preliminary investigation while additional officers diverted westbound traffic from the arterial.  Motorists were directed to turn right on Innis Avenue or left on Worrall Avenue to get around the road closure.  Drivers heading south on Innis Avenue were forced to turn right onto Maple Street.  Vehicles traveling north on Worrall Avenue were directed to make a left or right on Main Street due to the closure.

The road closures created substantial traffic delays on all main thoroughfares in the area.
