NEWBURGH – Businesswoman Christine Bello has announced her candidacy for the at-large Newburgh City Council seat in November.
Bello, who is the city’s Republican Party chairwoman, unsuccessfully ran for mayor in the past.  She said at this point, there are no GOP candidates for the other council seat or the mayor’s post. Former Mayor Nicholas Valentine said that he has been asked by several people to run for mayor, but has no plans to do so, saying he is involved in a number of committees and other community activities in Newburgh.
As a local Broadway business owner, Bello said she knows what is best for the city.
There are two council seats and the mayor’s post up for election in November.
