Mount St. Mary donated property to Habitat

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh has donated two properties to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh to provide affordable homes for local families.

The properties are located at 417 and 419 Liberty Street in the City of Newburgh.

Habitat currently has a record of 25 local families enrolled in its homeownership program with applications continuing to come in.

Students and employees of the college will partner with Habitat through Build Days on the construction sites to ensure that the new homes are completed by April 2025.

The housing crisis has widened the gap for housing inequities for families living in the City of Newburgh due to 21.4 percent of the city’s population living in poverty, Habitat said.

“This is why homeownership programs like Habitat Newburgh’s are transformative for local communities, who otherwise would not qualify for a mortgage,” officials said.
