Mount Vernon has highest unemployment rate in region

ALBANY – The City of Mount Vernon, with 5.2 percent unemployment in November 2023, had the highest level of joblessness in the Hudson Valley, according to the latest statistics from the state labor department.

Regionwide, unemployment stood at 3.5 percent.

The City of Newburgh registered 4.9 percent unemployment with the City of Poughkeepsie at 4.7 percent.

The City of Middletown had 4.2 percent joblessness with the Town of Haverstraw at 4.1 percent and the Town of Monroe at 3.9 percent.

Registering the lowest level of joblessness in November was the Village of Port Chester at 2.4 percent followed by the Town of Rye at 2.5 percent.
