NEWBURGH – An asylum seeker living in a Town of Newburgh hotel was attacked when he ventured into the City of Newburgh in late May, Mid-Hudson News has learned.

The man had apparently gone into the city looking for a job when he was roughed up, sources said.

Town of Newburgh Police said when the man informed them about the incident, they advised him to file a report with Newburgh City Police since that is where it was said to have occurred.

A city hall spokesman said, though, “We have no information about an asylum seeker coming into the city and being mugged.”

Mayor Torrance Harvey also said he had not heard anything about any such incident.
