GOSHEN – Robert Hufcut of Wurtsboro, the Town of Mamakating highway superintendent, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced in March on charges of course of sexual conduct against a child.

Hufcut has also served as the Chief of the Summitville Fire Department in Wurtsboro.  He was arrested earlier this year after an investigation.

An Orange County Court jury convicted the 55-year-old Mamakating highway superintendent on Friday, said District Attorney David Hoovler.

“He had sexual contact with a child on two or more occasions over a three-month period, and the child was less than 13 years of age. The incident happened almost two decades ago,” the DA said.

Hufcutt will be removed as highway superintendent and after his prison sentence, will have to register as a sex offender.

Hoovler called his actions “reprehensible and even more troubling because the defendant is a public official.”
