Thirteen-year-old girl killed in ATV accident

TOWN OF WINDHAM – A 13-year-old girl, who was a passenger on an ATV in the Town of Windham, was killed when the vehicle, which was operated by a nine-year-old boy, rolled over and landed on the girl.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 18 as the two were riding on private property off Big Hollow Road.

The boy was attempting to negotiate a left-hand turn when he lost control causing the ATV to roll over ejecting both riders. It then came to rest on top of the girl, killing her.

The operator was transported to Albany Medical Center by Windham Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Greene County Paramedics, Hensonville Fire Department, Windham Ambulance, Windham Fire Department, Town of Windham Police and State Police.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.
