Poughkeepsie firefighters responded to Sen. Rolison's report of a fire.

POUGHKEEPSIE – Senator Rob Rolison, a retired police detective and former Croft Corners Fire Department member in the Town of Poughkeepsie still responds to fires.  While picking up roadside trash for Earth Day on Tuesday, the senator responded to a large plume of black smoke coming from a fenced-in backyard on North White Street.  Unable to determine the source, the former firefighter called city 911 to report the obvious fire.

City of Poughkeepsie firefighters responded in three minutes and determined the fire was contained to a 55-gallon metal barrel behind a business.

After a brief conversation and advisory from the first responders, the employees began dumping buckets of water into the burn barrel, to extinguish the flames.  When the firefighters were confident the fire was out, they mounted up and proceeded to the next call while Rolison returned to picking up trash on the side of Maple Street (westbound arterial).
