WHITE PLAINS – Two Mount Vernon men have been sentenced to state prison on charges connected to a 2020 robbery.

Marcus White, 29, was sentenced to 16 years to life in state prison. A persistent violent felony offender, White was convicted after trial of felony robbery.

His co-defendant, Brian Rivas, 26, a predicate violent felony offender, pled guilty to attempted robbery as a felony and was sentenced to five years in prison, with five years of post-release supervision.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on December 29, 2020, a woman was walking on South 13th Street in Mount Vernon when she was approached from behind by the men, shoved to the ground and her purse was stolen. During the incident, White displayed what appeared to be a firearm.
