Serino names new head of county probation

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino has named Kathy McQuade as the new director of the Office of Probation and Community Corrections. She succeeds longtime Director Mary Ellen Still who has retired.

McQuade, who is currently probation supervisor, will assume her new post once confirmed by the county legislature in May.

“With more than 30 years of experience in criminal justice and being highly respected throughout our community, Kathy McQuade is passionate about the safety and well-being of our entire community,” Serino said.

McQuade joined county government in 1997, beginning as a probation officer. She advanced through the department, serving in the Presentence Investigation unit, STOP-DWI unit, as well as Pretrial Service Unit, where she served as the County Court Liaison and was promoted to senior probation officer for the unit.

In 2018, she was promoted to probation supervisor and in this role, she was responsible for coordinating pro0bation officers’ daily coverage of county and local courts, as well as helping monitor the daily population census at the former county jail and the newly opened Justice and Transition Center.

Prior to working in Dutchess, McQuade worked for Albany County Probation.
