BEACON – A 49-year-old Beacon man was killed in a head-on crash in the area of 511 Fishkill Avenue in that city shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 5.

Beacon City Police said the collision involved a Subaru Outback and a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the driver of the Subaru, Derron Holmes, being transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center In Poughkeepsie where he was treated and released.

The road was closed so that the State Police accident reconstruction team could investigate.

At about 1:15 on Sunday, a Beacon City police officer assigned to the road closure was sitting in his marked patrol car with emergency lights on when he was rear-ended by a Ford Bronco, which kept driving north on Fishkill Avenue and struck the rear of an unoccupied tow truck, where it came to rest.

The driver of the Bronco, Joseph Jarossy, 49, of Glenham, declined medical attention and was arrested by State Police where he was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and several vehicle and traffic violations.

The Beacon Police officer was evaluated and released from the Hospital.
