Westchester Correections Commissioner Joe Spano discusses new technology

WHITE PLAINS – A $200,000 state grant secured by Senator Pete Harckham will facilitate the upgrade of the Westchester County Department of Corrections’ body alarm system for corrections officers.

The current devices, while still working well, are some 20 years old, noted Corrections Commissioner Joe Spano.

“Technology evolves and it doesn’t last forever, and now to be able to enhance this system, which has served to be invaluable for us without impacting the DOC operating budget, it’s a great benefit but know that it’s a benefit that every member of our workforce greatly appreciates,” he said.

Harckham said it was corrections officers’ union president Neil Pellone who identified how best to enhance operational safety for staff and inmates at the county jail.
