Newburgh City Police Chief Brandon Rola

NEWBURGH – With the sudden departure of Newburgh City Police Chief Anthony Geraci one week ago, Lt. Brandon Rola has been appointed as the new chief.

He was appointed from an existing civil service list and is therefore the permanent chief, a city spokesman said.

He took command Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m., however, he will not be sworn in until Monday, May 13 at the city council meeting.

In a prepared statement, City Manager Todd Venning said Rola “represents the very best of the City of Newburgh Police Department: an officer who rose through the ranks with unimpeachable integrity, selfless acts of heroism, an unwavering commitment to our community, and innate leadership qualities that have garnered the respect of his fellow police officers and city staff.”

“Chief Rola’s promotion to chief of police is a strong testament to the city’s ability to promote from within and maintain continuity of leadership.”

Rola replaces Geraci, who has taken the position of chief of security in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.
