Newburgh city streets to be closed for funeral of policeman killed in snowmobile accident

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh Police Department is coordinating with several other city departments and other law enforcement agencies to prepare for the funeral of DJ Romano, the Town of Newburgh police officer killed in a snowmobile accident update last weekend.

The funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Church.

The city will be closing the following roads beginning at 8 a.m on Thursday, February 3:

  • South Robinson Avenue (US 9W) will be closed from Broadway to South William Street
    • All southbound commercial vehicle traffic will be re-routed from Broadway to Lake Street to South William Street then back to South Robinson Avenue
    • All northbound commercial vehicle traffic will be re-routed from South William Street to Lake Street to Broadway then onto North Robinson Avenue
  • Washington Street will be closed from Lake Street to Mill Street
  • Ann Street will be closed from Lake Street to Mill Street.

The road closures will be in effect until 2 p.m.

The City of Newburgh Recreation Department parking lot at 401 Washington St. will be closed to the public and utilized for funeral parking only.
