NEWBURGH – A total of $2.1 million awarded through the state’s Legacy Cities initiative will see the rehabilitation six properties in Newburgh’s Lander Street neighborhood.

The Legacy Cities funding, a partnership between New York State Homes and Community Renewal and the not-for-profit Community Preservation Corporation, will help transform a total of 16 residential units in six buildings on Lander (#59, #63, #136), Chambers (#140), and South Miller Streets (#39, #44).

Newburgh is one of three municipalities in the entire state to receive such funding this year.

Led by the Newburgh Community Land Bank, this revitalization effort will renovate properties in various states of blight and repair, transforming them into move-in-ready homes and expanding affordable homeownership opportunities for first-time buyers and households of color.

“The residential Lander Street neighborhood is a dense, vibrant section of Newburgh’s historic district that has long suffered from underinvestment,” said Senator James Skoufis. “We must continue to reinvest in dated building stock to maintain neighborhood character while laying the groundwork for young families and first-time buyers to establish themselves.”
